Crested Butte Angler

Gunnison Gorge Guided Float Fishing Trips

The Pleasure Park boat launch in the lower Gunnison Gorge below the Black Canyon National Park is about one hour forty minutes from our downtown Crested Butte fly shop.  The Gunnison River is free again below Crystal Reservoir where it has gained its notorious reputation.  Downstream of the dam for around 30 miles is designated "gold medal" water, with the trout population size and numbers far exceeding that.  The uniqueness of the desert climate and a cool river full of trout is undeniable.  The canyon is truly a trout oasis, as temperatures routinely reach the one hundred degree mark throughout the summer.  The browns and rainbows are healthy and strong aggressive eaters that have the appearance of the perfect trout.  The hatches are legendary with numerous stoneflies, caddis, and hoppers leading the way.  Cloudy days can get the midges, bwo, and tricos blanketing the water with rising fish sipping bugs in unbelievable numbers.  We fish from drift boats and rafts and cover roughly eight river miles, and as guides we love fishing and guiding the lower Gunnison River.  Please contact us in advance to book this trip.  All or part of this operation is conducted on public lands under special permit from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.
